Helping Your Pet Feel Comfortable
At Jensen Beach Animal Hospital, we're passionate about making your pet's surgical experience as relaxing as possible. Our team works hard to create a warm and inviting atmosphere to help put even the most anxious pets at ease. Not only that, but we employ fear-free techniques when handling your pet so that they don't feel overwhelmed or threatened. Additionally, when administering anesthesia to your pet, we'll calmly speak to them and gently pet them to make the experience more pleasant.
3 Things to Consider Before Your Pet's Surgery
Well before your pet's surgery, our team will sit down with you and outline pre-surgery instructions and tips. For example, preparing a safe healing space can be a difference-maker in how well your pet recovers from its procedure. Our veterinary team will break down everything you should consider, including:
- Preparing Transportation: It can be easy to forget your pet may be exhausted and tired following their procedure. As such, you must prepare a space in your vehicle that's comfortable and large enough to accommodate their entire body lying down.
- Cleaning Your Pet: Although our veterinary team will clean and sterilize your pet's surgical site before their surgery, cleaning your pet ahead of time can be beneficial in more ways than one. Not only can a clean pet help reduce the time we spend sterilizing the surgical site, but it can lessen the time your pet spends anesthetized.
- Emptying Your Pet's Stomach: Whether your pet is undergoing routine or complex surgery, its stomach must be empty. Food in your pet's stomach may cause severe complications with anesthesia. As such, we recommend that you not feed your pet after a certain point the day before their appointment.
Our Extensive Surgical Services
We're proud to offer a comprehensive selection of pet surgeries to meet your needs. Our practice believes in leveraging technology to improve the efficiency and safety of our Jensen Beach pet surgeries. That's why we use state-of-the-art surgical lasers, which help reduce bleeding and improve recovery times. Although we use surgical lasers with all our procedures, they can be especially valuable during declawing.
Our excellent surgical services include, but are not limited to:
Spaying & Neutering: Spaying and neutering refer to the surgical sterilization of your pet. The primary difference between both procedures comes down to your pet's gender. Spaying is the removal of your pet's uterus and ovaries, while neutering is the removal of your pet's testicles. Our Jensen Beach spay and neuter clinic can not only help control pet populations but can eliminate the chance of them developing testicular or ovarian cancer.
Declawing: Declawing is an elective surgical procedure for cats, as it's not medically necessary in most situations. The procedure involves the surgical removal of your cat's third phalanx. Although it can prevent your cat from clawing furniture, it can impair its ability to climb objects. That's why we recommend that your cat remain indoors or in a place of safety following the procedure.
C-Sections: If your cat or dog is pregnant and cannot give birth naturally, our practice can perform c-sections. During the procedure, we'll place your pet under anesthesia and make an incision along its abdomen to help birth its litter. C-sections may be necessary if your pet is older or its ability to give birth naturally is compromised in some way.
Growth Removal: If you've noticed a mass under the surface of your dog or cat's skin while petting them, mass removal may be the right procedure for them. Although most subcutaneous masses are benign, it's safer to bring in your pet to be examined. Our practice can remove simple and malignant growths.
Cystotomies: A cystotomy is a surgical procedure that opens the bladder and allows the vet to remove foreign objects, like bladder stones and tumors. Not only that, cystotomies can help repair a ruptured or severely traumatized bladder. Our practice can perform the procedure on cats and dogs of all ages.
